When I started dancing Zouk, I made a decision: this dance was going to be just for me. No teaching, no pressure to perform, no need to be good at it. Just dancing for the pleasure of dancing.
What I didn't expect was how much I would learn about myself in the process.
In this second episode, Sarah and I talk about how Zouk has helped us discover parts of ourselves we didn't even know were there. We come from very different experiences, but somehow, we both found ourselves learning something similar: how to soften, how to receive, and how to let go of the need to control everything.
And that brings us to a bigger question: What if the way we show up in dance has something to teach us about the way we show up in life?
We also get into femininity, vulnerability, the relationship between leading and following, and why dancing can be a powerful tool for self-discovery (although, as I say in the video, dancing is not a replacement for therapy!).
Here's our conversation. I'd love to know if any of this resonates with your own experience.
