Why do you go to certain Zouk events?

Some people go to Zouk events because of artists they are fan of, because of class topics, because of the amount of hours you can dance, and many more reasons. I go because of the vibes, the connections I make and the feeling I get from events.  

Zoukulento was a breath of fresh air. It was so different than the other Zouk or Bachata events I’ve been to. Because Zouk is still quite small in Mexico, they combined it with bachata and salsa. This meant a great mixture of people and styles but it still fit well.

What made this small event so special for me? The Mexican hospitality, incredible vibes and stunning locations. None of which have anything to do with dancing Zouk itself. I was one of the two not-Mexican people. Being the only blonde, tall girl, meant I stood out but not for a second did I feel like that or that I was different. This whole weekend became so special to me because of the people; the other guests, the teachers, the organizers. It was one great mix and not a separation between teachers and students for example. It was a great example of how every social and festival should feel if you ask me; full of harmony, hospitality, equality, being able to learn, grow and enjoy.

What is your main reason to participate in an event? And, I am very curious as a fairly new dancer in the zouk scene, did your reasons change over the years?

¿Por qué vás a algunos eventos de Zouk?

Algunas personas acuden a eventos de Zouk por los artistas de los que son fans, por los temas de las clases, por la cantidad de horas que se puede bailar y por muchas otras razones. Yo voy por el ambiente, las conexiones que establezco y la sensación que me transmiten estos eventos.

Zoukulento fue un evento especial. Fue muy diferente a otros eventos de Zouk o Bachata a los que he asistido. El Zouk aún es un movimiento pequeño en México entonces lo combinaron con bachata y salsa. Esto dio lugar a una gran mezcla de personas y estilos, pero todo encajaba a la perfección.

¿Qué hizo que este pequeño evento fuera tan especial para mí? La hospitalidad mexicana, el ambiente increíble y las ubicaciones espectaculares. Nada de esto tiene que ver directamente con el baile del Zouk. Yo era una de las dos únicas personas no mexicanas. Al ser una chica alta y rubia, destacaba, pero ni por un instante me sentí así ni sentí que fuera diferente. Todo el fin de semana se volvió muy especial para mí gracias a la gente: los demás asistentes, los profesores y los organizadores. Hubo una gran mezcla, sin esa separación habitual entre profesores y alumnos, por ejemplo. En mi opinión, fue un ejemplo perfecto de cómo debería sentirse cualquier evento social o festival: lleno de armonía, hospitalidad e igualdad, y con la oportunidad de aprender, crecer y disfrutar.

¿Cuál es tu razón principal para participar en un evento? Y, como bailarina relativamente nueva en la escena del Zouk, tengo mucha curiosidad: ¿han cambiado tus motivos con el paso de los años?
