    Jealousy In Dance
    • How do I deal with jealousy in the dance scene as a dancer and a therapist?

I have three major components that I apply:

Self-Regulation: First, I focus on my own self-regulation skills. If an emotion arises, I check in with myself and acknowledge, "Okay, I'm feeling this." I might even remove myself from the situation. For example, I might end a dance, walk off the floor, and go to the bathroom to splash cold water on my face. This helps me intentionally regulate my nervous system so I am not as upset.

    • Self-Discovery: Next, I ask myself some exploratory questions to figure out the root of the feeling: "Why am I feeling this way? What is coming up for me in this moment?"

    • Communication: Finally, I communicate with my partner—but only once I am in a self-regulated state. I might share something like, "Hey, when I saw you dancing with that person tonight, I got really jealous. I was feeling very insecure in that moment." In this step, we are not asking our partner to fix it or change their behavior. We are simply trying to be open and vulnerable about our emotions to create trust within the relationship.

To summarize: Self-regulate, ask self-discovery questions, and communicate. That is how I currently deal with jealousy in the dance scene. Tell me in the comments how you deal with it or DM me.
